The itinerary departs from the Passo del Giovo pass (1706m).
The walk is quite easy and sets out on an easy path that enables you to go right to the head of the Valle Albano, crossing meadows and shrub lands, as well as some small streams embedded in little valleys that cut across the southern slopes of the valley. Deer, wild boar, chamois, foxes, black grouse, eagles and buzzards are just some of the many species that you may typically see in this area.
The excursion should reach the Swiss-Italian border at an altitude of 1950m, where a perennial pond indicates that you are at the springs of the Valle Albano. Finally, you’ll reach the pièce de résistance: the Sommafiume Shelter (1798m – unmanaged), from which you can admire the whole Valle Albano and the peaks that characterise the
north-western slope (Cima Verta, Cima Pomodoro and Monte Albano mountains).
